Sony Acquires More Transponders of Asiasat 7 to Launch New Channels
Sony leased transponder capacity of AsiaSat 7 TV satellite for its new channels. Television network of Sony Pictures Network (SPN) of India is ready to expand its fleet of TV channels. The company has signed a multi-year agreement with telecommunications satellites in Asia Satellite (AsiaSat 7) for C-band transponders on AsiaSat to lease for several years. The AsiaSat 7 satellite capacity will expand the TV channels of Sony network in standard definition (SD) and High Definition (HD) channels to support in India, which is one of the most dynamic markets of pay-TV in the world for Sony TV network.
In April, the SPN started a new bouquet of SD and HD channels on AsiaSat 7 in India for cable TV and Pay TV services. It is expected that the SAB HD, the HD version of the Hindi GEC SAB TV will launch soon on Asiasat 7. Sony BBC Earth and Sony BBC Earth HD through the joint venture with BBC Worldwide, subject to regulatory approvals are also expecting to launch on Asiasat 7 TV satellite. The company recently received five licenses from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) of the BSA brand. The company has acquired licenses for SAB Bengali, SAB Tamil, SAB Punjabi, SAB Marathi and SAB Telugu. Sab TV network also received another license under the name of Sony Entertainment Bangla Tec through its subsidiary, which owns and operates the Bengali movie channel Sony Aath.
