First, what is Hulu?

Hulu is a video on demand service that allows users to stream popular TV programs in the US. UU And in Japan (sorry, Europe). It is co-owned by The Walt Disney Company, 21st Century Fox, Comcast and, to a lesser extent, Time Warner. Hulu focuses mainly on the transmission of newer television shows and its own original content in movies or documentaries and offers several levels of paid subscription (more on this later) to personalize your viewing experience.

Hulu Live TV

The platform differs from other broadcast sites known as Netflix and Amazon Video in that it allows users faster access to popular series. Usually, you only have to wait a week, and in some cases, just one day, to watch episodes of popularly broadcast television programs after they air. Unlike cable, there are also no additional fees, equipment rental or installation appointments associated with the Hulu subscription. You can watch Hulu at home or while travelling through many of your favourite video streaming devices.

As mentioned, Hulu has a growing line-up of original content such as Marvel's Runaways, the award-winning drama series The Handmaid's Tale, and I Love You, America with Sarah Silverman, all of which are available only to Hulu subscribers.

So, what is Hulu with Live TV?

The last commitment of Hulu is Hulu with Live TV. The broadcast service, launched on May 3, allows subscribers to watch live and on-demand TV programming from more than 50 popular networks, including news and local sports. Hulu with Live TV can be compared to others such as Sling TV, DirecTV Now or Playstation Vue, all of which allow access to live programming without the need for a cable or satellite subscription.

Everything you need to know about Hulu and Hulu with Live TV. In the golden age of playable content, with more options to see than ever, information is often confused. What can you really see on a streaming broadcast site like Hulu? How much? How is Hulu's new live television service (or similar services) different from the standard cable package?

This is your complete Hulu and Hulu guide with Live TV.

Like those other services, Hulu with Live TV is not without its drawbacks. The streaming quality of the live shows is often not as good as it could be, and it suffers quite a bit under slow Internet speeds or during periods of heavy traffic. The user interface also needs a facelift, and even accessing the live TV part of the website can be incredibly frustrating.

While you can go directly to Hulu with the Live TV website on beta.hulu.com, your options on the Hulu homepage are very limited. The only way to access live TV from your computer at this time is from a narrow pop-up window at the top of the page (which can be closed and will not reappear unless you reload the page) or from the " Hulu.com Beta. " Advance access "button in your profile drop-down list (but not your actual profile).

The integration between traditional Hulu on your computer, Hulu with Live TV and Hulu on mobile or streaming devices is still lacking. For example, the programs you save on your computer may not appear on your phone or Xbox after you save them because the Hulu "Watch List" and the "My Stuff" section of Hulu with live TV are not connected. In other words, like all the live TV services we've tried, Hulu with Live TV still needs work.

How much does Hulu really cost?

Although Hulu used to offer a free (though limited) version of its content library, unfortunately, that is no longer the case. The platform moved to a fully subscription-based model in 2016, eliminating the service supported by ads. However, in a recent partnership with Yahoo!, Hulu moved its free content to Yahoo! See. The website will make available the five most recent episodes of selected series and new episodes will be added eight days after they go on the air.

Hulu's traditional streaming service is now divided into a subscription, a level compatible with ads for $8 per month and an ad-free level for $12 per month (which we think is worthwhile), with some mandatory contractual exceptions such as Gray's Anatomy and Once upon a time. Hulu with Live TV costs $40 per month for limited ads or $44 per month for ad-free viewing.

Add add-ons with Hulu TV

Hulu subscribers have the option to add monthly subscriptions such as HBO ($15), Cinemax ($10) or Showtime ($9) in addition to their existing Hulu subscription.

As for Hulu with Live TV, while the service comes with 50 hours of online cloud storage, users can buy 200 hours of online DVR storage space for $15 per month. The service comes with a limit of two screens that can see the service at the same time, but this can be updated to unlimited screens at home or three on the way for another $15.

Depending on what you want from your Hulu experience, your patience for ads and the number of people who will use your account, a regular Hulu subscription could cost between $8 and $46 (including additional channels) or between $40 and $108 for a Hulu to the maximum Live TV Account.

For those without cable, any of these subscriptions could be a worthwhile addition. They offer access to countless hours of content, including unique series that can not be found anywhere else. And while subscriptions can be a bit expensive, meeting ads and having fewer screens available can make both services quite affordable. That said, you should also remember to consider the cost of your Internet connection.

The need for speed for Hulu TV service?

Hulu and Hulu with Live TV can be transmitted in a variety of different qualities, which will be adjusted automatically depending on the speed of the internet. For uninterrupted and uninterrupted playback, Hulu recommends a minimum download speed of 6 Mbps for Hulu in HD and 8 Mbps for Hulu with Live TV. If you are planning to stream to multiple devices, more bandwidth will be required for a quality experience.

While Standard Definition transmission is available on all compatible devices, HD or 4K Ultra HD transmission depends on the capabilities of your device. Currently, there are only two devices, the PlayStation 4 Pro and the Xbox One S, which support transmission in 4K Ultra HD. It's also worth noting that Hulu's 4K options are limited, even if your device supports it. A complete list of 4K Ultra HD shows is available here.

All Internet connection speed requirements for Hulu are as follows:

Standard definition: 1.5 Mbps

720p HD: 3 Mbps

1080p HD: 6 Mbps

Hulu with live TV: 8 Mbps

4K Ultra HD: 13 Mbps
