Prasar Bharati approves expansion of DD DTH platform, New channels will soon on dd direct reciever

The 200 channel expansion plans for Doordarshan’s direct to home (DTH) satellite TV platform by the end of 2011 have been granted approval by the board of India’s public broadcaster, Prasar Bharati.

An e-auction has also been cleared for channel carriage on the expanded Doordarshan (DD) DTH platform.

“This is to be implemented with immediate effect and efforts made to make it operational within a month,” said Prasar Bharati, in a statement.

Guidelines for the procurement by Doordarshan of Hindi movies have also been approved by the board, along with amendments to those of programs commissioned by the state TV service.

In other developments, cross channel advertising is now to be allowed by other broadcasters and DTH operators, and a negotiation team is also to investigate the possibility of out of court settlements of arbitration issues involving Prasar Bharati, which now amount to over INR 400 crore.

To speed up the latter process, power will be delegated appropriately to those officials charged with handling ‘intricate’ issues, according to the Indian state broadcaster.
