Google is developing a 4K decoder (Google 4K set-top-box), according to the FCC presentations. The new Google TV box will have 5GHz and 2.5GHz Wi-Fi band and Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity, with an official announcement scheduled for August.

According to a recent filing with the Federal Communications Commission in the US, Google has received permission to launch a "wireless 4K TV box".

Details are not officially available till, but the presentations unveil that the Google TV box is powered by connectivity options of 5GHz and 2.5GHz WiFi bandwidth and with the latest Bluetooth 4.1 radio.

FCC files also contain confidential images of the physical device and a user manual, which means that the product is in an advanced stage of development.

With the confidentiality rules expiring in August, we can expect an official statement or even a public version, similar to the announcement of the Google pixels phone.

Google has launched its Ultra-Chrome device at the end of last year and improved its Google Play Store, its TV box should have at least full HDR and DolbyVision support.

This news comes after rumors that Apple has been working on a 4K Apple TV box has reported having more "bright colors" - which means the HDR compatibility.
