Crank: high voltage
Crank: high voltage: good movies on Hulu
Crank: High voltage exists for no other reason than emotion.
Like the original 2006, Crank: High Voltage plays Jason Statham (hell yes) as former hitman Chev Chelios. In the original film, Chelios was poisoned with a drug that requires him to maintain his adrenaline levels or he dies. This time, the villains perform a simpler alchemy: they simply take Chev’s heart. The heart of Chev is replaced by an artificial one that requires periodic electric shocks to function.
Then Chelios sets out to find and kill his tormentors once more, this time with some bridge cables. Crank: High Voltage knows exactly what it wants to be and manages to be a completely silly and funny action comedy.
The magnificent seven
The magnificent seven
The Magnificent Seven is a new version of 1960 western of the same name. Like its 1960 original, The Magnificent Seven is a retelling of an all-time classic cowboy movie, The Seven Samurai.
The Magnificent Seven has a fascinating and timeless story to tell, in which a small town besieged by bandits resorts to seven gunmen and ruffians who do not match to protect them. More than anything, however, The Magnificent Seven is a great excuse to create a great cast. Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onforio and more stars.
Star Trek Hulu popular shows
In the year 2009 when J.J. Abrams had the task of restarting Star Trek franchise, apparently having little knowledge or interest in Star Trek franchise. He, however, had much knowledge of Star Wars. So basically he did what can almost be seen as a precursor to his own Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.
Star Trek does not have many progressive politics or progressive humanity as do the original series and the movies. What it does instead is recast all the original iconic characters with perfect pitch actors and send them on a space adventure.
Star Trek may not be a pure Star Trek, but it is a very successful movie.
Star Trek beyond
Star Trek beyond Hulu popular shows
Star Trek Beyond is the first of the Star Trek restarts not directed by J.J. Abrams, who went on to direct another dark “Star” movie. Fortunately, Fast and the Furious director Justin Lin advances skillfully to keep the franchise afloat.
Star Trek Beyond is definitely a step above the disappointing Into Darkness and in many ways, it is the Trek-iest of the new movies. While selecting Idris Elba just to put it under 40 pounds of makeup is still a crime against humanity, it has the most original Trek flavor we’ve had in years.
Golden Finger: Now, this is pure James Bond.
Goldfinger is perhaps the most “James Bond” Bond movie of all time. Eccentric villains, ridiculous killing machines, futuristic and demented contraptions, women called in some way “Pussy”: the gang is here. Connery returns once again for his third round as James Bond. This time, MI6 has it investigating the gold smuggling of a gold magnate named Auric Goldfinger. Yes, it’s that kind of movie, friends.
To see Goldfinger is to see the creation of cinematographic iconography. It is also a perfectly fun and enjoyable action movie.
From Russia with love
There are 25 Bond films in existence and most of the lists that rank them put Russia with love on top.
This is the second Bond movie in the official canon and brings Sean Connery back for his second round as the British spy. This is more a direct continuation of a Bond movie than what we expected with the events of Dr No original that plays an important role. Bond is sent to help a Soviet employee deserter in Turkey but when he arrives he discovers that SPECTRA has not finished his treatment with Dr.
Ong Bak: The Thai Warrior
Ong Bak: The Thai Warrior
Ong Bak is known as OngBakk: Muay Thai Warrior in his native Thailand, but the title was changed to The Thai Warrior for the American public who apparently would be absolutely bewildered and furious trying to discover what a “muay” is.
Ong Bak is like a John Wick martial arts. He simply replaces Wick with Ting (Tony Jaa) and Wick’s dong with a decapitated head of Buddha. When robbers in Bangkok steal a piece of the Buddha statue from a small village in northern Thailand, Ong Bak, the villagers turn to the Muay Thai Ting expert to retrieve it. And recover it does, with many broken bones on the road.
Ong Bak: The Thai Warrior is a useful martial arts movie that serves as an introduction to the excellent artist and martial actor Tony Jaa.
The way back
The Way Back is a World War II survival action movie by a successful Australian director Peter Weir (Dead Poets Society, The Truman Show).
Based on a true story, The Way Back opens with the Soviet invasion of Poland. Polish army officer Janusz Wieszczek (Jim Sturgess) is captured by Soviet forces and ordered to endure 20 years in a forced labor camp of the Siberian Gulag. Janusz decides that this is not to his liking and escapes along with his companions, Mr Smith (Ed Harris), Khabarov (Mark Strong), Valka (Colin Farrell) and many others. Together they begin the long, long, long, long, long way back home.
The Way Back shows once again that the fictional action always pales in comparison with the real thing.
Samurai and shogun movies are the eastern equivalent of Westerners, well westerns. They have rural heroes armed with weapons that try to live an ascetic life and fight against those who would harm them. 2010 13 Assassins is a perfect example of the similarities.
13 Assassin is a new version of a film of the same name from 1963. It takes place in 1844 and continues, 13 assassins (12 samurais and a hunter) while secretly plotting to assassinate Lord Matsudaira Naritsugu before he can be appointed for the Shogunate Council and become politically untouchable.
The action films with a single wolf character John Wick-esque are fantastic. But sometimes you need an action story with a large and extensive cast to feel truly epic.
Saints of Boondock
Boondock Saints of 1999 was the first solid evidence of a pop culture that Norman Reedus improves on most things.
Reedus stars like Murphy MacManus and Sean Patrick Flanery is his brother, Conor MacManus. The MacManus brothers are Irish-American Bostonians who only try to live their lives, take some pints and clean their noses. That modus operandi fails miserably when three Russian mobsters try to take MacMurphy’s favorite pub and the brothers are forced to kill the mobsters in self-defence. That establishes MacMurphys in a dark (but fun) way to continue killing the evildoers to protect the innocent.
Boondock Saints is an action movie as direct as revenge and probably is the favorite movie of your college roommate.
Planet of the Apes
The Planet of the Apes asks one of the most important questions in the history of cinema: what if the planet … but the apes?
In this 1968 classic, an astronaut crew led by Taylor (Charlton Heston) lands on a curious planet. The environment seems to be similar to Earth and there are humans that can be found; all are simply being subjugated by a race of hyperintelligent apes. Taylor must escape from the bondage of the apes and get off this monkey planet … whatever that planet is.
Planet of the Apes is one of the most important sci-fi movies of all time and takes a lot of action on the eve.
Technically, the whole Matrix “trilogy” is on Hulu, so consider these three films, but I imagine that most of us will be more interested in The Matrix as a singular entity. The impact of Matrix has been diluted by more than a decade of fragile imitators (that could even include the sequels) and it is a pity because as a science fiction movie it is a masterpiece.
The story of Neo (Keanu Reeves) and his journey in the style of Alice in Wonderland to learn the truth about reality is infinitely fascinated. However, even if it were not so, the spectacular action-packed third act should make The Matrix an essential watch.
Kill Bill Vol. 1
Writer-Direction Quentin Tarantino is a big fan of the Grindhouse action films and has rarely been more evident in Kill Bill Vol. 1. Uma Thurman plays the “Bride” without a name: member of an elite group of assassins, betrayed and left for dead. After she recovers, she embarks on a singular path of revenge.
Kill Bill Vol. 2 presents all the moments of silent character that you would expect from a great movie. Vol. 1 shows all the blood you would expect from a great Tarantino movie. There are times in Vol. 1 when blood shoots from cut branches as if they were fire alarm sprinklers.
Guillermo del Toro’s 2004 Hellboy is one of the coolest adaptations of comics and action movies of the new millennium.
Ron Perlman (under strong makeup) plays a demon turned into the paranormal police Hellboy in … well, Hellboy. Hellboy works for the Paranormal Defense and Research Office along with her friends Liz Sherman (Selma Blair) and Abe Sapien (Doug Jones). Together, the Office works to protect the world from paranormal and mythological threats. In this instalment, those threats include Nazis and Grigori Rasputin (not Rasputin).
Hellboy is an exciting paranormal action thriller and occupies a unique place in the recent canon of the superhero movie.
The Lord of the rings
The films of The Lord of the Rings are the main fantasy films of a generation and perhaps even of all times. The three, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King are on Hulu.
These films represent approximately 10 hours of J.R.R. The singular, iconic and perfect story of Tolkien. Each film is exciting, but if you’re looking for a particularly large sequence of action, check out The Two Towers’ last hour for the battle of Helm’s Deep or essentially the entirety of The Return of the King. What a miracle it was to adapt this epic story and in such an exciting and action-oriented way.
