The first 8K satellite TV broadcasts (also known as the 7680 x 4320 resolution) were officially released this weekend in Japan, even though the 4K TV currently installed is not outdated.

A few (who may have a Super Hi-Vision compatible TV with a built-in tuner or similar) can now enjoy 4K and 8K 12-hour satellite coverage over the local NHK TV channel, the only channel currently available. offers a resolution of 8K and a sound of 22.2 channels.

The first movie presented was a good choice: a special version from 2001: a space odyssey based on re-examined versions of the film's original 70mm negatives, updated specifically for this Warner Bros. show. little content 8K, the schedule is a bit repetitive for the moment (although Stanley Kubrick will be very happy).

Due to the lack of implementation of HDMI 2.1, it is still difficult for most of us to be interested in 8K technology. However, the Japanese will appreciate every detail of the next Olympic Games and are passionate about justifying the investment while the rest of us are likely to be more interested in 2020 and beyond.
