Prasar Bharati's Executive Director Shashi Shekhar Vempati said that the most important aspects of the revised policy are that e-auctions would be based on different prices based on five content categories and channel language. for all open positions without reservation.

"A key element of the new policy has been to increase the variety of content available on DD Free Dish and expand its reach in India, especially in non-Hindi states," Vempati said on Twitter.

The measure follows a vision of the Ministry of Information and Transmission, which has favored the exponential growth of private television channels by government satellites, especially in the heart of Hindi, but the use of Prasar Bharati has not adequately exploited this growth to generate income.

In April 2018, the ministry also opposed the approval of the Cabinet of DD Free Dish, which "subsidizes" private and mass-produced channels. DD Free Dish reaches 30 million households in India. It is currently capable of transporting 80 MPEG-2 standard definition channels, 54 of which are auctioned. The DD Free Dish also has 18 MPEG-4 channels.

The ministry was concerned that several mainstream entertainment channels, regional channels and news channels would use DD Free Dish to increase their footprint at low cost and increase public revenue by generating significant advertising revenues. a situation that should change in the context of the electronic auction mechanism.
