Prasar Bharati, India’s public service broadcaster on Monday announced that Jantantra TV had emerged as the winner of its 51st e-auction. The public broadcaster on Monday hosted the latest e-auction round of vacant MPEG-4 car space in the DD Free Dish platform. Prasar Bharati on December 21, 2020, invited applications from broadcasters for the allocation of vacant MPEG-4 spaces to India’s free Direct-to-Home (DTH) service. The public works broadcaster said the winners of his 51st auction would be paid according to the vacancies from January 1, 2021 to March 31, 2021.

Jantantra TV, an Indian news channel is said to be based in Uttar Pradesh and the station is also available on other DTH platforms including Airtel Digital TV and Tata Sky. Hindi news channel will only be available to users of DD Free Dish with Set-Top Box (STB) capable of receiving MPEG-4 signals.
It should be noted that Prasar Bharati in his announcement on December 21, 2020, indicated that the 51st e-auction was “open” to all channels of the genre. However, the public service broadcaster set a fixed price of Rs 28.91 lakhs of vacant space on the official DD Free Dish platform between January 1, 2021 to March 31, 2021. Prasar Bharati also indicated that the stations had to pay a non-refundable processing fee of -Rs 25,000 and a participation fee of Rs 1.25 lakh. E-auction winning channels are allowed to make vacant space payments with two monthly installments.
Three New Channels Added In The DD Free Dish Platform
Meanwhile, the broadcaster has now featured three channels including Star Utsav Movies, Sony Wah and Filmachi on the DD Free Dish platform. The three stations including Sony Wah won the 50th auction on December 21, 2020, for the allocation of vacant MPEG-2 spaces in DD Free Dish. Prasar Bharati had previously said that the channels winning his 50th auction would have vacancies between December 29, 2020 to March 31, 2021.
