“We regularly analyse and evaluate our portfolio of partner channels with respect to different aspects based on quality and quantity,” a Sky Deutschland spokesman said on the Quotenmeter portal. “Sky Deutschland and Sport1 have agreed not to extend the broadcasting agreement of the Sport1 US HD channel beyond June 30, 2017.”
The spokesperson said that the sister channel Sport1+ HD will not be affected and will remain part of the Sky Deutschland direct satellite platform.
Sport1 US HD launched on August 1, 2013, and offered by Sky Deutschland only to its subscribers of DTH satellites via Astra (19.2 ° east). The creation of the channel was triggered by the withdrawal of ESPN America from Europe on July 31, 2013.
Sport1 USA Covers many of the sports leagues previously shown by ESPN America. The channel program includes NBA, NHL, MLB, NCAA and the IndyCar series including more sports events.
